Class rules are designed for the safety and wellbeing of all dogs and handlers who attend class.

  1. What you need to know before attending class. These rules are designed for the safety of all dogs and handlers attending class.
  2. If your dog poops you scoop. Pooper scooper and bin are provided.
  3. Ensure that your dog is hydrated. Especially on a hot day or if you are working in the sun.
  4. Dogs must be on lead at ALL times and under effective control of their handler. Off leash training will only occur when the trainer considers the dog ready.
  5. Dogs must wear a quality sturdy collar and lead. Handlers must be wearing appropriate footwear.
  6. Dogs must be kept up to date with their vaccinations.
  7. Be on time. Class starts at 9.30am. This will ensure that everyone starts and finishes at the same time. If you are late, start your social walking and then join in with the class.
  8. Do not approach other class members if you are late as they are training and you may interrupt a critical training moment.
  9. Socialising occurs AFTER obedience class, once the dogs have worked and earned their right to socialise. Nothing in life is free (NILIF principle) – this applies to all our training. If you wish to socialise before class then you need to arrive early.
  10. Be mindful of other dogs and handlers. Some dogs may not be ready to fully socialise or some handlers may not be confident to deal with that situation. Always ask the handler for permission to approach and if this is ok, do so in a safe manner (no charging or tension on leads).
  11. Everyone is to follow instructions given during the lesson. Do not go off on your own training tangent. Where critical distance training is required, class members are to work within the view of the trainer.
  12. Always be watchful of your dog and their body language, even if you are being given instruction or in discussion.
     - Is your dog happy to the proximity of the dog next to them?
     - Is your dog annoying or trying to get to the dog next to them?
    Watch your dogs body language at all times and prevent your dog from jumping, lunging or barking. If you are unable to prevent it then use your corrections.
  13. Not all dogs are comfortable around other dogs. Please give these dogs space while training and during free time. Be considerate of all dogs that have critical distance issues.
  14. Have fun. Training is about bonding with your dog and improving current skills and learning new skills. Dogs love to work. Set them up for success.
